Groups of four The venerable Dominican National Police is really fighting crime. No doubt about that. The country is invaded by small time hoodlums that go around ravaging simple citizens, stealing cell phones, gold necklaces, even tennis shoes, speeding by on fast motorcycles. It is really difficult to stop this. The experts say it is due to the basic social injustice of Dominican society. Then there is the judicial system, based on the infamous Penal Process Code that gives judges the option to release criminals. A man was released "on bail" a couple of days ago who murdered a young woman in front of her kids in a motel. So, in spite of there not being a death penalty in the country, the police want to make sure these guys donīt walk, they take them out in groups of four. Four were shot together in Herrera outside of the Presidente beer warehouse a month ago. Yesterday four more were shot together after a "fire fight", which, according to witnesses didnīt occur. Social injustice? Pretty soon it will by the dozen. Take care. |
