The financial crisis has done much harm to the job situation in the Dominican Republic as it has everywhere else. Now it seems that the crisis is slowly easing up and some jobs have appeared.
English, especially mother tongue level English, is at a premium in many jobs areas. Let´s see what areas we are talking about.
English schools, are one. There are several, and local universities have language schools also that probably pay better that the language schools.
Also, many call centers are being established, and there the language must be perfect. Someone calls a company to lodge a complaint or make a request in California and the person who answers the phone is in Santo Domingo. They must not notice the difference in the quality of English spoken.
There are more areas to look at: hotels, resorts, banks, travel agencies, etc.
