The wounded middle class

Thank author of this post/commentPoor Dominican middle class! Why do I say "poor"? Well, let´s see.

The middle class everywhere is the interface, or link, between the "haves" and the "have nots".

In the Dominican Republic the "haves" are fourteen families that own 80% of everything.

The "have nots" are the 80% who have nothing.

The middle class keeps things rolling, provides the educated manpower, and most of the tax pesos.

They have been hit within the last couple of weeks by the fiscal "paquetazo", making them pay for a large government overspending spree.

Then came a 14% increase in their medical bill, an 8% in their electricity bill, and now a substantial increase in their private school bill.

Not to mention the 21 basic food items that have increased 30% or more.

That´s why we say "poor".

Without a middle class, who will the corruption feed on?

¡Buena suerte!
