The politics here takes place in a representative framework with the President being both the head of state and government. Executive power rests on the government while the legislature rests on the two chambers of the National Congress.
Since August 2004, the country's President has been Leonel Fernandes Reina. The country's constitution has taken great lenghts to explain the executive powers of the President. He controls much of the appointment and dismissal of public officers.
